Bay Middle School Announces Veterans Honor Wall

Bay Middle School's Veterans Wall
Bay Middle School is proud to honor the veterans in our community with a veterans wall wrap, made possible through the generosity of our PTO. The idea began when Technology Teacher Cassy Hunt created a Veterans project with the help of Head Librarian Melissa Wolf for her technology students. The students interviewed a family member who served in the military, as part of the Library of Congress Veterans History Project. These interviews were recorded and turned into interactive posters for all to see at the middle school. Art Teacher Wendy Fortunato designed the wall wrap background as part of the lasting tribute to our veterans.
We are incredibly grateful to our generous PTO for making this project possible, and we hope the wall serves as a meaningful reminder of our gratitude to all who served and continue to serve our country.
POW/MIA Honor Chair Dedicated at Bay High Memorial Stadium

Rolling Thunder Chapter #1 assists with the Honor Chair dedication ceremony.
Bay Village City School District installed a POW/MIA “Chair of Honor” at Bay Memorial Stadium on the Bay High School campus (29230 Wolf Road) during the Bay High School track meet on Saturday, April 18, 2026. The dedication of this chair during the month of April was especially meaningful, since the district celebrates National Month of the Military Child each April. Please click here to learn more about the other activities the district planned to honor the 72 military-connected students and their 42 families served by Bay Village Schools.
Bay High School's (Class of 2026) Abigail Feiszli coordinated the project with Bay High School Principal Jason Martin. Elisabeth Boggess (Class of 2027) played “Taps” on the bugle. Rolling Thunder, Chapter #1 Ohio, sponsored the cost of the Chair of Honor, but Bay High School students fundraised and collected $700 from a powder puff volleyball game to make a donation to Rolling Thunder to forward the nonprofit’s mission. Rolling Thunder says there are about 30 chairs in the northern Ohio area, 10 of which are at high school stadiums.

The Disco Family
"Our family was transferred to Cleveland in 2012. We began as renters, here in Bay. It didn't take long for us to take notice of the Bay Village City School District’s child-centered approach. Hands down, the best school system our family has attended, in the country, no exaggeration."

How it Began...Board of Education Passes Resolution to Support Military Families
On Monday, October 25, 2021, the Bay Village Board of Education passed a Resolution in Support of Military-connected Children and Families. The initiative realizes there are many military-connected families within Bay Village, and the goal is to provide them with the support and resources they need, and to eventually become an official Purple Star school district, as recognized by the Ohio Department of Education.

Military Parent Feedback
"Speaking for just our small Coast Guard family, we appreciate the Bay Village Board of Education's attention to the unique challenges that military families face. The significant periodic upheavals and many of the daily burdens of service are shouldered by the children and spouses of military members, but we truly appreciate the support we have received from so many here in Bay Village. Drawing awareness to those unique challenges will enhance the experiences of our fellow military families who join the Bay community in the years to come, and will ensure Bay Village remains a place that is welcoming to all who serve."
~Brett McCall, Lieutenant Commander, U.S. Coast Guard
