Before summer break, fifth-graders learning Spanish made Guatemalan "worry dolls" in class. The tradition is for students to tell their worries to the doll, and put them under their pillow at night.

Today we celebrate Juneteenth, commemorating the emancipation of enslaved Black Americans. Juneteenth facts: 1.) The holiday originated in Galveston, TX, & has been celebrated in other parts of the US since 1865. 2.) This day was first recognized as a federal holiday in 2021.

In May, third-graders went to the Ohio History Center at Western Reserve Historical Center. Students engaged in active learning about immigrants and refugees by learning about real families that came to Cleveland. They looked at historical maps and explored some of the exhibits.
