Bay High School to Install, Dedicate ‘Chair of Honor’

at Bay Memorial Stadium on Saturday, April 18 at 10:45 a.m.

Chair of Honor recognizes the more than 92,000 American soldiers unaccounted for.

(Bay Village, OH) Bay Village City School District is proud to announce that a POW / MIA “Chair of Honor” will be installed and dedicated at Bay Memorial Stadium on the Bay High School campus (29230 Wolf Road) during the Bay High School track meet on Saturday, April 18 at 10:45 a.m.

The dedication of this chair during the month of April is especially important to the school district, which celebrates National Month of the Military Child. Please click here to learn more about the other activities the district has planned to honor the 72 military-connected students and their 42 families that are served by Bay Village Schools.

Bay High Senior Abigail Feiszli has been coordinating this project with Bay High School Principal Jason Martin.

Rolling Thunder is sponsoring the cost of the Chair of Honor, but Bay High School students have fundraised and collected $500 to make a donation to Rolling Thunder to forward the nonprofit’s mission.

Media guests who are attending are asked to complete the invitation link, or to call Bay High School at 440-617-7400 during business hours to RSVP. You will be added to the guest list, and ask that you check in at the ticket box office when you arrive.

We will also share some photos of the event on social media that you are welcome to use and credit to the district.

Chairs of Honor

Chairs are displayed in a wide variety of public spaces across the United States, including:

  • Sports stadiums and arenas

  • Town halls and city halls

  • State and national capitol buildings, such as the U.S. Capitol Visitor Center

  • Schools and universities

  • Lobbies of public and private businesses

Many installations include a plaque with an inscription explaining the purpose of the empty seat. A common text reads:

"You are not forgotten. Since World War I, more than 92,000 American soldiers are unaccounted for. This unoccupied seat is dedicated to the memory of these brave men and women and to the sacrifices each made in serving this country."
