Sports Report

Saturday morning, the 7th grade volleyball team traveled to Fairview for their final tournament of the year.  The girls came ready to play as they defeated Fairview in two sets 25-20 and 25-12.  In the second set, Sydney Veselic served for a whopping 13 points, 6 of which were aces!  Rachel Kraft and Riley Somerville each had 4 kills.

Next, it was on to the semi-finals against none other than Rocky River.  We knew this was going to be a tough battle since both times we played them during the season we went three sets, with RR winning at their place and Bay winning at our place!  Unfortunately again went three sets, but the best part was the Rockets coming out on top!!  The girls should have beat the Pirates in two sets but they enjoy keeping Coach Crumbacher's heart rate up!  The scores of the match were 25-22, 24-26, and 25-10.  Rachel Kraft  had 5 kills, while Audrey Weingart had 4 kills.  In set one, Claire Filiatraut served for 6 points with 1 ace.  In the second set, Riley Somerville served up 7 points with 2 aces, and in set three, Bridget MacAlea was on fire with her serves as she crushed it for a total of 8 points with 5 of those being aces.  Rocky River looked defeated as they could not figure out the tricky floater serve!

In the finals, Bay lost to a great Westlake team in two sets with the scores of 21-25 and 17-25.  Rachel Kraft had 3 kills while Sydney Veselic kept the Rockets alive while serving 6 points, 3 of those being aces.

The ladies had a very successful season finishing second in the conference and bearing an impressive overall record of 15-5!  The team was made up of the following girls:  Riley Somerville, Lauren Vecchio, Addie Ebenger, Bridget Mac-a-lay, Sawyer Kerns, Abby Cronin, Audrey Weingart, Elizabeth Dorton, Rachel Kraft, Anna Spellman, Sydney Veselic, and Claire Filiatraut.

Coach Crumbacher stated, "It was a pleasure coaching this fine group of young women, and l look forward to seeing their growth as they become 8th-grade players!  Always remember, defense wins games!!"

The 8th grade girls volleyball team finished 2nd this past weekend at the end-of-the-year tournament. The girls came out strong, beating Hillside and North Olmsted easily in 2 games. The girls fought hard in the championship game but ultimately ended up losing to Lakewood Garfield in 3 games. Payton Masterson led the team in both kills and aces, contributing 19 aces and 12 kills throughout the day. Reese Stanley and Morgan Meade had 7 aces each, and Stella Turall had 11 kills. Congrats to the girls on a fantastic season!!
